DIY 'can be life-changing'
A keen home improver has told how turning to DIY helped to change his life.
Mark Frauenfelder decided to use DIY projects to help carve out a new life for him and his family.
He grew his own food and carried out repairs himself on all his household items that needed it.
"It used to be that consumers fed, clothed and educated themselves," he told Reuters.
"DIY is a deeper level of engagement with the world as an active creator."
Mr Frauenfelder added that turning to DIY as a way of life changed him and he has now written a book - Made by Hand, Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World - to tell all about his experiences.
He stated that by living life DIY-style, he feels more energised and is no longer bothered by the minor irritations of everyday life.
This comes after Professor Geoff Beattie stated that gardening can have a positive effect on the mental wellbeing of a person.
