Demand for coastal property is returning

Coastal property markets are seeing a welcome return to prosperity as demand is growing, according to Waterside Properties.

The company stated that the south of England boasts some "excellent options" and, although fewer coastal home transactions are taking place, many people are still seeking shore-side properties.

However, the company also said some homeowners have been forced to postpone their move to the coast due to problems selling their existing property.

Managing director of the company Peter Halliday said: "Most of the people that buy through Waterside Properties are buying for a lifestyle move; they are selling up their family home and moving down to the coast."

He went on to claim that, despite their greater expense, coastal homes were still subject to the same "vagaries" of supply and demand as the rest of the UK housing market.

The announcement of returning demand follows a report from Halifax earlier in the month, which found that five of the ten best value seaside towns in Britain were located in the south of England.
