Clean rooms 'to make them look fresh'
Rooms that are clean and in a good state of repair look best.
This is according to Thomas Jayne, writing for Interior Design magazine, who takes an old fashioned approach to cleaning.
He noted that people should take everything out of a room once a year, ensure it is spotless, repair any paintwork and then check that everything which is returned to the space is actually required.
This could then make a room look refreshed without the need for any renovation and Mr Jayne added: "I think too often we just let rooms wear down to the point of no return and become forced into wholesale redecoration."
And an area of the house that is well decorated can look good for hundreds of years.
Earlier this month, Lindsay Cuthill, a director of Savills estate agents, told the Telegraph that carrying out home improvements on the exterior of a property can increase its value by up to ten per cent.
