Bad DIY can 'reflect on the price' of a property
Homeowners should be careful in their approach to DIY, as a bad job can often reflect on the price of a property, according to one home improvement expert.
Director of the National Home Improvement Council Andrew Leech claimed that the recession has driven some homeowners to innovate in completely the wrong way, damaging the chances of selling their property.
"Regardless of whether you're putting up a shelf or wallpapering," he said. "It certainly would reflect on the price of the property if people did a bad job."
He went on to advise homeowners to stick with a neutral scheme when renovating their property, as this would allow the prospective buyer to impose their own character on the place.
Mr Leech also claimed that gender roles were becoming increasingly irrelevant, with responsibility for DIY being taken up by both sexes.
A recent study by Halifax Home Insurance revealed that there could be a genetic link to DIY, with some people being predisposed towards renovation skills.
