ABI: Weather damage is a serious problem
The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has warned of the "devastating" consequences homeowners could face from weather damage.
Moisture can be a particular problem for homes with wood flooring and the ABI revealed that around five million properties in the UK are at risk from flooding.
Media relations officer for the organisation Malcolm Tarling warned homeowners of the growing risk of weather damage.
"It's relatively easy to reduce the likelihood of burglary happening, but weather is much more difficult to predict and the consequences ultimately can be much more devastating," he said.
A survey conducted by Lloyds TSB earlier in the year found that one in eight Britons' homes had been affected by weather damage in some way.
Mr Tarling went on to reveal the serious implications a rise in the number of weather damage incidents could have for insurers and homeowners alike, noting that the UK was one of the few countries in which flood insurance was automatically provided under home policies.
