Engineered wood floors 'the best choice in some homes'

Engineered wood floors may be a better option than solid wood floors in some properties, homeowners have been advised.

Angie Hicks, founder of Angie's List, told CBS3 that an increasing number of people are choosing to install solid wood floors in their homes because they look great.

However, she recommended that homeowners do some research about the suitability of the different types of flooring available before they begin installing their new floor, rather than making a selection purely based on looks.

"Engineered hardwoods are more important to be used on slabs, or below grade flooring where there is more humidity and there's a chance that the floor might expand and contract," Ms Hicks explained.

She added that taking advice from a professional flooring expert on the selection and installation of any kind of wood floor was a good idea.

Architect Carlton Abbott recently told the Daily Press that any kind of home improvement work requires careful planning.

Anyone planning to undertake a home improvement project should ensure they think long term and consider what changes they may have to make to their lifestyle in the future, he explained.ADNFCR-2810-ID-19517602-ADNFCR
