Q:Can I install Quick-Step flooring on a staircase?

A:Quickstep laminate can be installed on a straight stair case (no rounded corners) using the incizo 5-in-1 profile and stair base.

Q: Can I install Quick-step in a bathroom?

A: The only range suitable for bathrooms is the Quick-Step Lagune. We would not recommend installing any other Quick-step laminate floors in the bathroom.

Q: Can I use an office chair on Quickstep flooring?

A: Yes, although you should protect the floor to avoid surface scratches by doing the following:

• Make sure your office chair has soft castors.
• Clean the floor regularly to ensure no grit or dirt gets between the castors and the floor.
• Consider investing in a protective mat for the area under the chair as insurance against surface scratches.

Q: Can Quickstep laminate flooring help with my allergies?

Quick-step floors use a closed surface structure and closed joints meaning that there is no place for dust to hide! Dust mites and other similar organisms cannot survive on a clean Quick-step floor. If you suffer from asthma or a dust allergy, you will notice the difference a Quick-step laminate floor can make. Quick-step recommend that you use their cleaning solution to ensure that there is no build up on the floor which can attract dust, pollen etc.

Q: Do I need to use an expansion break between rooms?

A: A Quick-Step laminate floor expands and contracts in the same way any wood based product does. If the maximum length of a run of planks exceeds 10 linear meters, then there is potential for distortion in the floor. In general, we would recommend that you use doorways as an expansion break. The matching Quick-Step incizo profiles cover the break seemlessly.

Q: How do I clean a Quick-Step laminate floor?

A: Quickstep recommend the use of their maintenance set for cleaning Quick-step laminate floors.

• Daily maintenance - Sweep the floor with a dry micro fibre mop to remove loose dust and dirt.
• Periodic maintenance - Occasionally you may want to clean your quickstep floor with a moistened Quick-Step micro fibre cloth. This involves spraying the mop lightly with Quick-Step cleaning solution and mopping as usual. Follow up with a dry micro fibre cloth to ensure that all the moisture is removed from the floor after cleaning.

Quick-step do not recommend “damp” cleaning V-Groove floors such as perspective, as this may cause an accumulation of dirt in the V-Groove.

Q: How do I remove paint or pen marks from Quick-Step laminate flooring?

A: You can remove paint, pen and similar stains with a solvent such as white spirit. Apply the product to a cloth and wipe the floor. Follow up with a dry cloth to clean up any residue

Q: How long should I wait for a concrete base to dry before installing Quick-Step?

A: It is important that you let the subfloor dry before installing Quick-Step. How long this takes depends entirely on how thick the concrete is:

• Allow at least 1 week per cm (thickness) for the first 4cm's.
• Allow at least 2 weeks per cm for every cm thicker than than 4cm.

Some important notes:

• Ventilation is important. The concrete will take longer to dry if the area is poorly ventilated.
• A DPM must be laid between the concrete and the screed.
• An additional Quick-Step >DPM should be used between the screed and the Quick-Step floor. Many of the quickstep underlays include a DPM.

Q: What is Quickstep flooring?

Quickstep is a laminate floor made of several distinct layers.

• The top layer is a transparent protective overlay which prevents damage.
• The next layer is the design layer which gives the floor its look.
• Underneath the decorative layer is the core board which is made of moisture resistant High Density Fibreboard (HDF).
• The bottom layer is a barrier to rising damp which helps stop the board from absorbing moisture.

The layers are pressed together under high pressure and temperature to form a strong single piece of floor.

Q: What type of saw should I use to cut Quick-Step laminate flooring?

A: Most types of saw will cut Quick-Step laminate flooring effectively:

• Handsaw - Use a fine tooth handsaw with the surface of the floor facing up.
• Circular saw - finer toothed saws work best, cut with the surface facing upwards.
• Jigsaw - Use normal blades with the surface of the floor facing downwards.

You should remember that the cuts do not need to be perfect as they are usually covered by skirting, scotia or similar.

Q: Which direction should I lay my Quick-Step floor in?

A: In any direction you want! There is no structural benefit of installing a floor lengthwise over widthwise or vice versa. Many people choose to lay along the same direction as the main light source in a room, but you should experiment with a few planks to see what looks best.

Q: Which underlay should I use for installing Quick-step on top of floorboards?

A: If the floorboards are even and in a good condition, you may use one of the Quick-Step foam underlays. If there is unevenness, you should use the Quick-Step soft board under a Quickstep foam underlay.

If you are installing the floor downstairs, the manufacturer stipulates that you must use a damp proof membrane. You should also make sure that the ventilation under the floor boards is good.

Q: Which underlay should I use under Quick-Step laminate flooring on top of a tiled sub-floor?

A: There are a couple of options depending on the evenness of the subfloor:

• If the floor is perfectly level / even - You can use any of the Quick-Step unclic underlays(which have an in-built damp proof membrane)
• If the floor is slightly uneven - You should first lay a Quick-Step screen DPM. On top of this, you should use Quick-Step Softboard and cover with Quick-Step foam underlay.

Q: Which underlay should I use when installing Quick-Step on top of Underfloor heating?

A: It is important that you use a damp proof membrane under the floor. The choice of underlay depends on the underfloor heating you are installing on top of. You should contact us for advice on specific underfloor systems.

Q:Can I stick down my Quick-Step floor?

A: Quick-step laminate floors are floating floors and not designed to be bonded to the subfloor. We would not recommend that you stick down a Quick-Step floor as your warranty would be invalidated.
